This benchmark product offers high moisture transmission to support growth. This is matched to air permeability for temperature stability and heat retention to increase root temperatures which drive early maturation of crops. Thicker fibers make the product robust enough to protect from occasional weather extremes and custom widths help ensure the optimum coverage of crops.

Crops such as Radish, Carrot and Crops from the Allium family. All these vegetables are mainly sown. Their growth and yield can be enhanced by a structure that maintains the hygrometry necessary to improve the germination rate. Fleece with good homogeneity can prevent damage and compaction in the soil structure. Combined with rain this can cause the formation of a "crust" that is hard for seedlings to pierce. Crop cover creates a good thermal effect which improves seedling growth.

These vegetables can be either sown or planted. Planted crops are generally sensitive to shocks caused by temperature and humidity variation. Using a floating row cover can significantly reduce the risk of these shocks. Sown crops require a fleece to reduce crusting and maintain the humidity and thermal effect necessary to have a uniform germination. They generally have an important vegetative development.

Brassica Crops

Cabbage, Cauliflower & Kale are all examples of this category. Planted in March - April these are typically covered to ensure the root development. This typically requires covering for about 4 to 6 weeks depending on the species. At the beginning of spring, the soil temperature limits rapid root growth and cold wind can inhibit the vegetative development of the plants. The combined wind-break and greenhouse effect of crop covers allow a rapid growth and effective protection of the foliage.

Ornamentals ►

Ornamentals includes lawn, young trees and ornamentals in nurseries. Fleece is used for overwintering of the plants in container and ensures an optimal winter protection against:

  • breaking of the exposed parts of the plants (frost, snow, wind)
  • dehydration of twigs, buds and leaves (conifers and evergreen plants)
  • bursting of branches
  • asphyxiation of the roots
  • freezing of the plant
  • sudden variations of temperature

It also protects the lawns in the case of global sowing or in case of overseeding.

To maintain the optimum temperature and soil humidity, planted seeds are covered with Agryl. The plant growth is then early and uniform.

Application Technology

Agryl P17 is the lightest of a range of floating row crop covers used to improve crop yields and shorten harvest times.

Suited for a wide range of environmental conditions the physical strength of P17 protects planted crops from the physical impact of climatic changes including hail, frost and snow. It also acts as a physical barrier to reduce damage due to wildlife such as rabbits and birds.

Agryl creates a growth enhancing micro-climate due to carefully selected materials and open structure which give a low thermicity value, with high air flow. This result in a more uniform temperature (across the field), less variations due to day/night and retention of the radiant heat stored by soil during the day.

Farmers have the scope to water and fertilize crops to further optimise the yield without removing the crop cover, due to the porous structure of the fleece. Agryl‘s exceptionally highly porous structure and exceptionally low hydrostatic head allows rapid water pass-through. This enables the product to remain light weight for longer - resulting in less risk of wind damage.

The outcome is a more homogeneous crop, consistently sized and maturing earlier in the season for example:
8-18 days for Lettuce
8-14 days for Strawberries

To optimise the use of crop cover, Agryl is available in a wide range of custom and standard sized rolls up to 28m wide. This reduces installation time through minimum roll changes, fewer traverses of the field and less product waste. Installation is also simplified with the option of reinforced edges that reduce the risks during roll-out and staking to ensure the integrity of the fleece is maintained.
